“PM understood the importance of the crisis long ago,” said Amartya Sen, praising Modi
Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for tackling the Corona situation. In a recent interview with an all-India media outlet, he said Prime Minister Modi has been ahead of many contemporary statesmen in dealing with the Kovid-19 virus. It has helped India. The challenge now is to get the economy back on track.
In fact, Amartya Sen is known as a harsh critic of the BJP and Narendra Modi. He was even the most vocal against the Modi government’s note cancellation in 2016. But Amartya praised Prime Minister Modi’s timely initiative to deal with Corona. Many have been surprised by the rare praise of Modi in the face of Amartya Sen. While praising the Prime Minister’s foresight, the Nobel laureate economist gave Modi a slight nudge. He says Prime Minister Corona understood the importance of the crisis earlier than many statesmen. But in order to deal with that problem, the life and livelihood of the common man should have been given more consideration. Amartya is not willing to blame Modi separately for the problems of migrant workers. He says the plight of poor people in India is already there. He says the picture of poverty and misery is not new.
As the number of corona cases in the country reached close to 500, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked all citizens to observe a “people’s curfew” on March 22 from 7 am to 9 pm. Then, in his address to the nation on March 24, he announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown from midnight on that day. The only solution to control the spread of coronavirus, he said, is to break the cycle of infection by social distance.
Earlier, various world leaders, including the World Health Organization, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for tackling the coronavirus. He applauded the way the lockdown was announced before the Corona was spread. Bill Gates wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi in this regard.
